Q Rainy walks. Skip or suit up?

Otis Suit up — short. Skip the marathon. I am fourteen, not a submarine. A cool September drizzle is fine. A clay greenway after three days of rain is a slip hazard with scenery. Soft ground sounds gentle until your hips invent a new angle. Towel in the car. Short loop. If the bank looks like pottery class, turn around. The porch still counts. That is not quitting the season. That is editing the weather.

Otis Only if they've practiced settling somewhere boring first. I take the edge table, the water bowl, and the early shift. Saturday at 4 is not training. It's a hostage situation with pretzels.

Sun Oct 4 · 10am–1pm: Barktoberfest at Riverbend Park (100 Bleachery Blvd) — free city dog-park day: costumes, contests, treats. Humans under 14 with an adult.

Carrier Park · French Broad

River left of the oval, 7:30 on a weekday. The French Broad is cold even in July; most dogs do a splash and a rethink. Gorgeous. Soft bank for older joints if you stay off the clay after rain — towel in the car or skip it. By 10 it's a greenway commute, not a walk. Otis does the short out-and-back and calls it enough.

Weekday mornings. Year-round, if you pack the towel. Keep it short for seniors.

Tuesday at 2 beats Saturday at 4, and it's not close. They want the dog. You still need a leash, a settle, and a tip that matches the water bowl. Seniors get the shade and the quiet shift — Otis would. If your dog guards food, take an edge table and skip the shared pretzels.

Tue–Thu before 3. Leave the peak-hour herding to somebody else.

Weekday, 7am. Tight loop, real waterfowl, leash required — the ducks will enforce it if you don't. Right for a senior dog or a reactive one who needs the volume down. Flat enough that Otis still signs off. Not a fetch field. Don't make it one.

Early, and only early. Leave the tennis ball in the car.
